Types of Transport
Canadian Car Shipping can offer several types of vehicle transport. The decision of what type of transport is best suited for the importer depends on several circumstances and preferences of the client.
Open Carrier Transport
Open carrier transport is the most traditional form of commercial transport. This vehicle transport carrier is open on all sides, usually with a 2 tier carriage trailer.
The transport rates for these kinds of loads are the cheapest of all the other options of transport available and typically is a good fit for commuter vehicles, family vehicles, etc.
Enclosed Vehicle Transport
This type of transport is more expensive but for good reason. With this type of transport your vehicle is loaded on a completely enclosed trailer, away from the wind, dirt, and any other materials that may fly through the air during long hauls.
This transport style is usually best suited for classic cars, vintage show cars, race cars, and high valued vehicles. It is an added layer of protection and peace of mind for the car enthusiast.
This style of transport is not offered by all commercial vehicle carriers. Meaning that there are some areas where this form of transport is not available, however, our sales executives are able to inform you of what areas this is available and help discern a plan if another carrier for the area can be found to meet your needs.
Transport of an In-operable Vehicle
On occasion we find importers who have found their dream car, usually at an auction, and sometimes not in a running condition. This can prove some difficulties when commercial carriers are loading their trailers; having to move cars around, having to roll the vehicle by hand up onto the trailer.
For the above reasons this is usually a more expensive form of transport. The reason being is most of the time the carriers have to prearrange for a tow or lift to be available so they can more easily and safely get the vehicle onto the loading trailer.
The other caveat to this form of transport is that not all carriers have the capability of transporting in-operable vehicles. Meaning that service areas for this type of transport are limited, however, our sales executives are able to help assist you and notify you of what areas we can service this type of transport.
Things that can affect Vehicle Transportation
At Canadian Car Shipping we work diligently to provide all services in smooth and timely fashion. This does not mean that delays have not or never would arise. When ever a delay arises regarding documentation or during encounters with CBP/CBSA our team works concisely and quickly to get all necessary adjustments made to continue a smooth encounter.
However documentation is not the only area where delays may arise. Your vehicle is being transported on a very large carrier trailer, being driven by a single person. As we all know the different seasons can bring different types of chaos; snow storms, hail storms, flooding, ice, lightening, rain storms, etc. These types of event may cause a carrier to need to delay due to safety. Safety of your vehicles, safety of the carrier truck, and above all their own personal safety. Carrier trucks can also break down or have mechanical issues that arise, just as any other vehicle working the roadway may.
Any time any of these types of delays occur our carrier teams are quick to act. If a truck has a mechanical issue, or a driver becomes ill they are quick to send another truck and reload the haul to continue the route. If inclement weather is a factor our carrier companies notify us right away and keep tabs on the area to update us as soon as road conditions become safe for travel, they also work with their drivers to try and avoid inclement weather by advising of other routes to keep drivers and cargo both safe. The carrier companies are quick to respond, but also are efficient at notifying us right away so we can keep each and every importer up to date on the status of their cargo.
